Lára is a 31-year-old writer and former professional footballer from Iceland. For more than a decade, she pursued a career in professional football, competing at the highest levels both in her home country and abroad. In Iceland, she represented several teams with great success, earning eight major trophies and establishing herself as a strong presence on the pitch. Her talent and ambition later took her beyond Iceland, where she competed in Italy’s Serie A with Napoli, in the Netherlands’ top league with Fortuna Sittard, and in Belgium with the historic club Brugge.
Alongside her athletic achievements, Lára has cultivated a deep academic and personal interest in understanding human behavior and society. She holds a degree in Modern Studies and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in International Addiction Studies at King’s College London. Her academic focus aligns closely with her passion: addressing the complex realities of addiction, particularly food addiction—a condition often overlooked, misunderstood, and stigmatized.
After stepping away from professional football, Lára redirected her energy toward social impact work in her home country. She now works with individuals facing homelessness in Reykjavík. Her professional journey has been diverse. In addition to her career in sports, she has worked as a substitute teacher at the high school level, driven a taxi, and served as a counselor in a psychiatric ward.
Writing has become one of Lára’s most powerful outlets. She sees it not only as a personal catharsis, but also as a way to challenge societal norms and spark conversations around addiction, sports, queerness, and other pressing social topics. Her debut book, Being in the Soil, was first published in Icelandic in 2022 by a renowned publishing house. The English edition has since been made available through Kindle Direct Publishing, marking her first step toward reaching a broader, international audience. Through her writing, she hopes to shed light on the complexities of addiction and to push for greater understanding, compassion, and systemic change.
